Must Have By Anonymous Investigator The summary from my review at www.notstalking.comAt 133 pages there isn't a lot of room to waste and, to the author's credit, waste isn't apparently in his lexicon. Each chapter deals with a specific part of a surveillance operation and broken down into various elements, each with a number of concise points to remember. That's pretty much it: but believe me there is a wealth of information, just presented in very few words. This is not a 'how to' manual. And, as should be evident from the title, it is an accompaniment to a training regime, a guide for an instructor, or a reminder to experienced surveillance operators. There is nothing negative I can say about this book. Definitely an A+ as far as I'm concerned.EVERY surveillance operator should have a copy.

The comic-book-like illustrations are wonderful. This is the first "Introducing" book I've come across, but I will probably read more.

The ball, the prince - it's all part of my plan to come out on top. Stepmother and her demented daughters will pay for every floor I have scoured, every sneer I have borne. They don't know about the white magic, how I use it to enhance myself. They can't see that my heart is black as midnight, rotten as a poisoned apple.

They're about to find out.

Review "This book will keep the readers glued till the end to find out the inevitable as well as shocking climax of this story." -Amazon Reviewer"Ms. Valle has written a delicious alternative to the sanitized Disney version of Cinderella. This girl knows how to make her world work for her." -Amazon Reviewer"Countless authors have written darker versions of the Cinderella story, but this one stands out for the sense of inevitable tragedy that comes from jealousy and the lack of love." -Amazon Reviewer"The twists and turns in this book are fantastic and unexpected! So different. I loved reading this and had a hard time putting it down." -Amazon Reviewer"This is not your typical Cinderella fractured fairytale. This well-written and magical story had many twists that I never expected." -Singing Librarian Books

From the Author I've sometimes wondered about Cinderella. How could she stay so sweet and cheerful when she gets nothing but abuse from her family? I think even the most good-natured person would become bitter and vindictive after a while. In this story, I wanted to show a more wounded side of Cinderella, the side that is hurting from being unloved. Love brings out the best in people, but hate brings out the worst.So... about me: I live near Poughkeepsie, New York with my husband, three boys, and no pets. I have a hard time getting my boys to stop playing video games and read more books. My house is often a mess because I'm either out at my day job, or helping my kids with homework, or trying to squeeze in some writing and drawing. Yet I get frustrated when my house isn't clean. Other than strangers on the internet, I almost never tell anyone I know that I write books, because I have a weird insecurity that they won't take me seriously. But I never feel happier than when I'm working on my projects. If you have a few spare minutes, would you do me a favor and write a review? That really helps to give the book credibility. Also, please consider checking out my other books. Most of the time, I'm working on The Nine Princesses, a fun series about a family of teenage princesses. The first book "Maelyn" can be downloaded for free. Thanks so much for supporting an indie author. God bless you.-Anita Valle

30 of 32 people found the following review helpful. An Interesting Dark Story, but not Conclusive By Bel I'm a bit conflicted about this story. On one hand, I love the changed perspective-- a Cinderella that isn't perfect and all good. But there's a reason that this story is usually so positive-- fairy tales need a moral at the end. The problem with this story, for me, was I didn't feel like there was a conclusion or a moral. Cinderella started off as not that bad. Perhaps a little bratty and bitter, but redemption was in view. Then... she got worse. Not really a fan of that plot. Fairy tales usually have a positive ending, because events happen that cause character development. For this "dark" story, it wasn't a moment that brought her into darkness and she pulled against it bravely. It was just a sort of "meh-- I'm pretty much a bad person". Cinderella had no real redemption or transition to evil. It's not a book that you finish and fell complete, or feel sympathy for poor misunderstood Cinderella. The conclusion is just that she's pretty much a bad egg, not particularly passionately evil, just casually meh. When you look at this book, it's probably best to consider the difference between a dark fairy tale (where there is a beginning, middle, and end of the character's darkness and you are left with a moral and a feeling of compassion), and a story with a dark fairy tale character (where the character is basically bad through and through).SUMMARY: When Cinderella's dear father died, she was stuck with her stepmother and two stepsisters. Visited by her fairy godmother, she found that doing good deeds and behaving kindly earned her some white magic-- magic that gave her power to change her appearance, change animals to other animals, object to other objects. But Cinderella's heart festered with bitterness. She does good, but only with the end goal of evil. Her prize, the prince, may not be the easy and happy ending she searched for. The prince has his own darkness. And true darkness is not pleasant.the not so best parts: I guess my main problem was Cinderella started out a bit vindictive and bitter. But in all honesty, she wasn't that bad. She even had moments of genuine kindness. I would have preferred to see development of her compassion, than see her slowly dissolve into bad habits. This truly is a negative story. There are a few pinnacle moments of badness, but they don't have the proper motivation to inspire compassion in the reader, or to make you think that there is possible compassion in the character. The result makes you think the character is shallow and very one dimensional.the best parts: the magic is interesting, the step characters are realistic. The line between malicious but not ridiculous was perfectly toed with all step characters. The prince was a fresh surprise, well written, and it was interesting for Cinderella to basically see herself reflected in this faux-amazing man. A refreshing change of pace, and an interesting read. All in all, the writing was good. The story was fleshed out, the characters sharp. A good novella. I just didn't like that this story didn't have a resolution or even real development of character. A novella shows, in my mind, important snipers of a story to bring a full picture. This felt like the beginning (of the end). The dark edginess might just not be my thing. For certain, I'm not eager to reread for a character that I just think will never change-- especially because she had so many opportunities for goodness-- and isn't particularly emotion provoking. If you're looking for something new and with a dark feel, this might be it for you. If you're looking for a dark fairy tale, or different fairy tale with a solid conclusion and moral-- this just doesn't have that structure. I liked reading this, and found it interesting food for thought-- but I didn't feel like I really wanted to see more of Cinderella. This just doesn't have THAT MOMENT-- the one where you cry for that transition to evil, or you cry cause you see the inner pain. This just felt like you wanted to shake Cinderella. If you want to see a different Cinderella, this is your novella. If you want a full tale revolving around a dark Cinderella, where you see a clear ending and you feel sudden understanding and compassion towards an evil Cinderella, this isn't for you.

Cinderella is bad, but she isn't evil. The step-family is bad, but not wholly evil (step-mom becomes more evil toward the end). The prince is not as he seems (Spoiler: He is evil).I found it hard to sympathize with the characters. The only character I actually liked was the youngest stepsister, and I stopped liking her at the end. At least the dysfunctional family is consistently dysfunctional. I get that this is a dark retelling, but there should have been at least one likeable and good character that remained likeable and good. Even a very minor character!I was not a fan of the ending. It's sort of left hanging. Yes, Cinderella does some bad things, but she doesn't deserve the ending she gets. And while life isn't fair and people don't always get what they deserve, the ending wasn't satisfying. I want to learn how Cinderella's fate affects her as a person. Does she slowly become more and more bad to the point of being evil? Does she find justice? Does she escape? Now, there is supposed to be a sequel (about the prince's daughter, I think), so hopefully Cinderella's story gets a little more wrapped up then.

Did you read the popular A.A. Milne stories as a child or maybe you read them to your children or grand children? This book is a gem of background information behind the stories of Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends. I found that having these tidbits of information gave more meaning and depth to Christopher Robin, the real boy, who played with his imaginary friends. We learn about the man, A.A. Milne and the illustrator E.H. Shepard. Their partnership and the way they worked together made books that children have loved to read for 90 years.Living in the USA, I never thought I would be transported to Ashdown Forest where Milne worked his magic to bring to the page Christopher Robin's playtime adventures. We learn about the plant and animal life in the forest. I loved reading about the door in the tree. It somehow brought me back to my own childhood where I, like Christopher Robin, roamed my parents farm. But a child can have this experience with a small lot as well given some time to do nothing. A great gift for the Winnie the Pooh fan, nature admirer, gardener, or dreamer. The photos are beautiful.

Not Worth the Time or Money By Tar Heel Not Worth the Time or MoneyIf you are looking for tips and guidelines on note taking I suggest doing a web search. The so called "book" is a few pages of the 907 pages. The web offers more details and more styles of note taking complete with examples.Additionally, the book starts out with:Click Here (all caps) and Click Here Now (all caps)Of course these are links to somewhere. I have no idea where. All worthwhile books indicate where a link is taking you and for what purpose. This one doesn't.Thankfully, I downloaded this pamphlet (hard to accurately describe as a book) via Kindle Unlimited. I have returned it, but felt compelled to submit a review.

It begins with why note taking is so important and then breaks down each aspect of doing so in easily read and understood steps that will help anyone take notes more effectively and efficiently. I will keep this book as a hard copy and read it over again and again to stay sharp in attending and comprehending lectures at work or in school. I have ADHD and this guide will give me active measures to "keep my head in the game" and not spacing out during any lecture or presentation. I received this book at a discount for an honest review and feel this book is well worth the price and is a resource to be used again and again.

By MGH First of all, this book is one of very few available resources from ETS which offer authentic TOEFL iBT questions – you penny-pinching ETS. So, no doubt that If you want to access those authentic questions and exams, you have no other way but buying it. There are five ‘real’ TOEFL iBT tests in the book; as you probably know the actual TOEFL iBT test contains some research/experimental sections on either the reading or the listening part – don’t expect to get those extra questions in this book/DVD. The book and specially the software on the accompanying DVD seem to have been prepared inattentively; the reasons are to follow.1. No scoring table is provided for any of the five tests. I mean there is no way you can at least estimate your final score. ETS has shown before, in their GRE books, if they want, they can share such tables with the reader. The software calculates the percentage of the correct answers, so shameful that it does so with a grain of miscalculation! I’ll get back to this point later. To be honest, lack of such tables is a minor issue and can be resolved by looking up some general scoring tables online.2. A more serious problem with the book is regarding its answer key, especially for the writing tasks. There is literally no sample essay for the writing tasks like the ones you get from the official guide book. It is rather confounding that the answer key simply ‘explains’ how you can write the essay or what points your essay should include for the given task. My experience tells me the current version of the answer key for the writing tasks is good for nothing! The same story holds for the speaking section, too.3. The main problem (this is actually why I decided to write this review) is the interactive software on the DVD. It contains the five tests and somehow allows you to experience taking the test on a computer! Having all the tests on a DVD is a big plus for this book, but in reality it gives you a throbbing headache. Let me explain: the first time you install the software it works fine; aside from that the DVD gives your DVD-ROM a hard time while it strives to read its content. If you close the application and relaunch it a second later, it keeps throwing errors one after the other! The fastest way to get rid of the errors is to reinstall the software – say about 15-20 minutes. Most horribly is that all your records will be removed as soon as you uninstall the software! If you are determined enough to survive the uninstall/reinstalling process, you will see a plethora of issues with the application itself!I) As mentioned above, this silly software doesn’t know how to count and thus makes mistakes when reporting the percentage of correct answers!II) In the middle of the listening sections of two of the tests, the question doesn’t show up and you’ll be stuck in that question even though the allotted time is not-so-peacefully running!III) On this interactive application, 60 minutes is allotted for the listening sections. Based on my experience, this is not what happens in a real TOEFL test: in a real test, the total time of the entire listening part is divided into shorter periods for a certain number of listening tasks (about 3).IV) The passage and the lecture do not match for the integrated writing task of one of the tests. In the end, I believe the development team of the software is to blame the most and of course must be responsible for the poor quality of this product. I mean, at least for god’s sake, run the application twice on your computer before commercializing it!! Here is a warning for Mac lovers: the terrible experience I explained above was on a Windows machine, I feel you guys should maintain a much higher level of dignity as ETS is notorious for making Mac-unfriendly applications.Update: I'd previously installed the software on a Windows 7 Home premium. I tried a different windows machine with Windows 7 Enterprise, and it in fact worked smoothly without throwing any errors (#3 issue mentioned above), but the rest issues still hold. So now that the software is at least functional in some way, it'd be fair to increase my previous 2-star rating by one star!
