(I cannot say I wouldn't want a Lucius for myself...I do love the brooding types that smile only for me. ;) )This book is one of those you need to savor. It is slow paced and full of feelings. It's also set in a period of which authors don't write enough. Jessamin, in fact, is a suffragette who writes speeches for meetings and, at the same times, tries to make ends meet with a bookshop that her father has left heavily indebted because of his gambling addiction. When a Lady offers a hundred pounds for a stolen kiss to a Lord Grim(sby) because she feels rejected by him (in a childish and seflish way if you ask me) Jess, desperate to save the shop, rashly accepts... and in so doing starts a series of events to which no one would have thought.I really enjoyed Christy Carlyle's style of writing. I found it perfect for the time she is speaking about, "fluent" and rich. I liked all her characters too, the likeable ones and the ones not so much (I couldn't stand his sister and I would have slapped her a time or two...or three XD). Even if the story is not perfect, many can say it is too slow, for me it was a very good "first read" from this new author. The perfect book to read when you want something that can soothe your mind and engage your feelings."...she’d felt in their kiss what he had, a strange alchemy of need and desire, a sense that whatever he’d been seeking might have finally been found?"

The plotting was okay, the characters mostly likeable but the writing was somewhat disjointed. There were some parts that were so confusing that I had to go back and re-read several pages.My biggest complaint, though, is the amount of time spent in the character's heads with their thoughts. In my opinion, that is a lazy way to write and add to the page count. I would much rather read engaging conversations than someone's thoughts.It's really too bad because there were characters in this book that I would have liked to have their own story. This is the first book by this author that I have read. I may try one more ...

Vivid characters and lots of sensual chemistry By Jolliffe This is an intriguing romance, set in late Victorian England, full of sensual chemistry and interesting characters.Jessamin, a suffragette, agrees to create a scandal, because she is struggling to keep her late father's debt ridden bookshop open. Kissing a nobleman, in the midst of the ton, is far out of her comfort zone but needs must and the scandal she causes is the least of her worries. Lucius is the accidental heir to a crumbling estate, with his father's diminishing mental health; marrying money is the way to save his ancestral home and appease his demanding father. Fate intervenes; will he forsake his duty for love?Vividly written with some surprises, for both Jessamin and Lucius, there are lots of noteworthy supporting characters, particularly Aunt Augusta. The chemistry between Jessamin and Lucius is tantalising and the ending, perfect fairytale romance.I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
