The Girl in the Spider's Web: A Lisbeth Salander novel, continuing Stieg Larsson's Millennium SeriesBy David Lagercrantz

Review “Salander and Blomkvist have survived the authorship transition intact and are just as compelling as ever . . . Fans of Stieg Larsson’s captivating odd couple of modern detective fiction will not be disappointed.” —Michiko Kakutani, New York Times “Rest easy, Lisbeth Salander fans—our punk hacker heroine is in good hands . . . A twisty, bloody thrill ride . . . seamlessly woven together by Lagercrantz—in fact, if you hadn’t seen his name on the book jacket, you’d likely assume it was Larsson’s own handiwork . . . An instant page-turner.” —USA Today (4 out of 4 stars) “Without ever becoming pastiche, the book is a respectful and affectionate homage to the originals . . . Lagercrantz’s continuation, while never formulaic, is a cleaner and tighter read than the originals.” —Guardian“Lagercrantz has more than met the challenge. Larsson’s brainchildren are in good hands and may have even come up a bit in the world.” —Wall Street Journal “What of Lisbeth Salander? Given that Lagercrantz knows she’s what readers want, her long and suspenseful introduction is masterful.” —Lee Child, New York Times Book Review (cover)“A worthy, crowd-pleasing fourth installment . . . Lagercrantz, his prose more assured than Larsson’s, keeps Salander’s fiery rage at the white-hot level her fans will want.” —Publishers Weekly (starred)“Lagercrantz does an excellent job . . . Anyone craving more Salander bad-assery should get their hands on a copy of Spider’s Web faster than Lisbeth can hack into the NSA.” —People “Lagercrantz’s real achievement here is the subtle development of Lisbeth’s character; he allows us access to her complex, alienated world but is careful not to remove her mystery and unknowability. Lisbeth Salander remains, in Lagercrantz’s hands, the most enigmatic and fascinating anti-heroine in fiction.” —Financial Times“Lagercrantz deftly blends the spirit of Larsson’s work and characters with his own literary skills and bright imagination. Spider’s Web is an intelligent novel that has Salander entangled in one of the most contentious issues of our times . . . Riveting . . . Pyrotechnic.” —Chicago Tribune “A thrilling next installment . . . In spinning a complex and intriguing new chapter in the adventures of Blomkvist and Salander, Lagercrantz has written a worthy successor to one of the more uniquely compelling thriller sagas of his generation . . . An engrossing novel.” —Paste “Action-packed and thoroughly enjoyable . . . [A] finely-wrought thriller . . . I will eagerly devour the next adventure for Salander and Blomkvist, especially now that we know their fate lies in the hands of a writer worthy of their story.” —The Daily Beast“Lagercrantz stays true to Larsson’s vision . . . No doubt about it, Lagercrantz has done a skillful job.” —Sydney Morning Herald “[A] smart, action-packed thriller that is true to the spirit of the characters Larsson created while adding interesting new ones and updating the political backdrop that made the Millennium series so compelling.” —Buffalo News “Fans of the original trilogy will be pleased with Lagercrantz’s new installment. The novel is a smart, propulsive thriller and espionage tale with a timely digital age plot (think Snowden and Wikileaks).” —Hollywood Reporter “Passion and fire, check: there are plenty of both here . . . Fast-moving, credible, and intelligently told. Larsson fans won’t be disappointed.” —Kirkus Reviews“Lagercrantz pulls it off . . . One devours Larsson’s books for the plots, the action, the anger, and most of all for Lisbeth Salander, a character who resembles Sherlock Holmes or James Bond . . . Lagercrantz has caught her superbly.” —Daily Telegraph (UK)“David Lagercrantz was set an almost impossible task by Stieg Larsson’s estate when they asked him to write a ‘continuation’ novel featuring Lisbeth Salander. He has carried it out with intelligence and vigour. The Girl in the Spider’s Web conveys the essence and atmosphere of Larsson’s Millennium novels. He has captured the spirit of their characters and devised inventive plots.” —The Times (UK) “Fans of the original trilogy need not fear . . . The novel is well-researched and more intelligent than the average thriller.” —The Independent (UK) “Lagercrantz makes sensible decisions in this fourth volume . . . . Blomkvist is given a cleverly and very contemporary storyline . . . A worthwhile read for anyone who’s zipped through the trilogy and finished wanting more.” —Daily Express (UK)“Sometimes you almost forget that the spine of the book says David Lagercrantz and not Stieg Larsson . . . There is definitely the same narrative zest and love of intrigue, and also the impressive research . . . Lagercrantz has written a thriller that is captivating in its own right.” —Svenska Dagbladet (Sweden) “A real page turner.” —Borås Tidning (Sweden)  “Lagercrantz has studied the first three parts of the series well, and the reader will recognize not only their Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander and the social criticism, but also other essential parts of the story’s DNA . . . David Lagercrantz has proven that he deserves both attention and respect. ” —Dagens Nyheter (Sweden)“An excellent thriller . . . elegantly constructed.” —Stern (Germany)

She wasn’t bad, as it turned out—she probably spent a lot of time playing—but what good was that? He toyed with her a little, and she was bound to be impressed. Who knows, maybe he could even get her to come home with him after- wards. True, she looked stroppy, and Wrange did not go in for stroppy girls, but she had nice tits and he might be able to take out his frustrations on her. It had been a disaster of a morning.   It wasn’t grief that he felt: it was fear. Wrange really did try hard to convince himself that he had done the right thing. What did the goddamn professor expect when he treated him as if he didn’t exist? But of course it wouldn’t look good that Wrange had sold him down the river. He consoled himself with the thought that an idiot like Balder must have made thou- sands of enemies, but deep down he knew: the one event was linked to the other, and that scared him to death.   Ever since Balder had started working at Solifon, Wrange had been afraid that the drama would take a frightening new turn, and here he was now, wishing that it would all go away. That must have been why he went into town this morning on a compulsive spree to buy a load of designer clothes, and had ended up here at the chess club. Chess still managed to distract him, and the fact was that he was feeling better already. He felt like he was in control and smart enough to keep on fooling them all. Look at how he was playing.   This girl was not half bad. In fact there was something unorthodox and creative in her play, and she would probably be able to teach most people in here a thing or two. It was just that he, Arvid Wrange, was crushing her. His play was so brilliant and sophisticated that she had not even noticed he was on the brink of trapping her queen. Stealthily he moved his positions forward and  snapped it up  without sacrificing more than a knight. In a flirty, casual tone bound to impress her he said, “Sorry, baby. Your queen is down.”   But he got nothing in return, no smile, not a word, nothing. The girl upped the tempo, as if she wanted to put a quick end to her humiliation, and why not? He’d be happy to keep the process short and take her out for two or three drinks before he pulled her. Maybe he would not be very nice to her in bed. The chances were that she would still thank him afterwards. A miserable cunt like her would be unlikely to have had a fuck for a long time and would be totally unused to guys like him, cool guys who played at this level. He decided to show off a bit and explain some higher chess theory. But he never got the chance. Something on the board did not feel quite right. His game began to run into some sort of resistance he could not understand. For a while he persuaded himself that it was only his imagination, perhaps the result of a few careless moves. If only he concentrated he would be able to put things right, and so he mobilized his killer instinct.   But the situation just got worse.   He felt trapped—however hard he tried to regain the initiative she hit back—and in the end he had no choice but to acknowledge that the balance of power had shifted, and shifted irreversibly. How crazy was that? He had taken her queen, but instead of building on that advantage he had landed in a fatally weak position. Surely she had not deliberately sacrificed her queen so early in the game? That would be impossible—the sort of thing you read about in books, it doesn’t happen in your local chess club in Vasastan, and it’s definitely not something that pierced punk chicks with attitude problems do, especially not to great players like him. Yet there was no escape.   In four or five moves he would be beaten and so he saw no alternative but to knock over his king with his index finger and mumble congratulations. Even though he would have liked to serve up some excuses, some- thing told him that that would make matters worse. He had a sneaking feeling that his defeat was not just down to bad luck, and almost against his will he began to feel frightened again. Who the hell was she? Cautiously he looked her in the eye and now she no longer looked like a stroppy, insecure nobody. Now she seemed cold—like a predator eyeing its prey. He felt deeply ill at ease, as if the defeat on the chessboard were but a prelude to something much, much worse. He glanced towards the door.   “You’re not going anywhere,” she said. “Who are you?” he said. “Nobody special.” “So we haven’t met before?” “Not exactly.” “But nearly, is that it?” “We’ve met in your nightmares, Arvid.” “Is this some kind of joke?” “Not really.” “What do you mean?” “What do you think I mean? “How should I know?”   He could not understand why he was so scared.

By STL Carol Had this been the release of a 4th novel by Steig Larsson about Lisbeth Salander, I would have been beside myself with anticipation and excitement. As it was, I approached this read with a bit of trepidation but open interest. The story is good and it makes a credible (enough) fast paced suspense novel. What is lacking is the electricity and visceral intensity that filled every scene with Lisbeth contained in the trilogy by Larsson. I felt like I was viewing Lisbeth from the outside in, rather than the inside out. Larsson's Lisbeth is the strongest and most unpredictable female character in modern fiction, or maybe of all time. That is why we couldn't put his books down and couldn't wait for the next. Lisbeth raised our blood pressure, kept us up all night, and we rooted for her success in vengeance like no other. With this book, I was 95% complete and had no trouble putting it aside to go to the grocery store. That says a lot. I felt distanced from the characters. I was aware it was just a story, not THE MOST EXCITING character and scenes I felt like I lived and died with in the earlier books. Would Larsson approve? Of the story itself, yes. Of the story telling, no.

The Millennium should have remained a trilogy By Letitia The Nitty Gritty: Michael Blomkvist is an investigative journalist without a story and Lisbeth Salander is a undercover crusader without a cause. What happens when Sweden's best duo run out of things to do?Well if you are Wasp and one of the best hackers in the world you tackle the biggest game in town, the United States National Security Agency, or the NSA. And if you are Blomkvist you find yourself in the middle of a murder investigation by the strangest of circumstances.Lisbeth is on the hunt for an elusive group of hackers responsible for some of the biggest intellectual heists in the century, and a couple of murders and Blomkvist is hot on her trail. This group who call themselves the Spiders have targeted Lisbeth and a Swedish scientist on the cusp of breaking through to A.I. Driven b vengeance and a sense of her own brand of justice Lisbeth is going to hunt them down to the last line of code and Blomvist will shine a light on their illegal activities of its the last thing he does...and it might just be.Opening Line: "Frans Balder always thought of himself as a lousy father."The Good: LISBETH IS BACK!!!!! I can't tell you how excited I was when this book was announced. I fell in love with Blomkvist and Salander after the first book. I admit I waited for all the hype to die down before I dove into the books, but once I did I was in a fan hook, line and sinker. I was gutted when I found out Larsson had died. Beyond the loss of a short life the world lost a literary gem. Larsson singlehandedly changed the game of crime novels in Sweden and indeed the world. Since the publication of the Millennium trilogy Sweden has seen an explosion of crime novels with brilliant leads and wonderful plots. I've found myself thumbing through the crime section more than the fantasy aisle since I first read Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.Lisbeth is the sort of person you want to have on your team when you're in a jam. She's the hail mary everyone needs in their life. And Blomkvist is better than Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and all of it if you want the world to know your story. The Bad: We all know about the controversy surrounding the publication of this book. Eva Gabrielsson, his writing partner and his life partner has been vocally against the publication of the book, especially its author, but Larsson'd brother and father have literary rights over his estate and they approved the book and its author. So its a sticky situation with family on both sides of the issue. I bought the book all the same. The Girl in the Spider's Web is like your favorite article of clothing that your mother accidentally shrunk in the dryer. It's still yours and it fits, but something just feels off about it. The shoulders don lay down like they used to. The color is a smidge lighter than it was yesterday. Its still the same garment but its not. That's what this book was like. Of course I wasn't expecting the writing to be the same. Larsson and Lagercrantz are two different people and sometimes I appreciated their different writing styles, but more often I wanted Larsson's flair for cutting through all the purple prose and getting to the meat of the issue. Larsson has a way of introducing characters with such clarity that I could describe them to a sketch artist and everyone in the world would recognize who it was and with Lagercrantz he jumps right into the action and then we get a little background on the character, but its not lasting. I had to go back and reread the first chapter about Balder to remember who he was when he was mentioned again.Larsson didn't mind breaking the rules of fiction. He didn't start his book off with action. He didn't open up in the middle of a scene. He didn't have to. He had a compelling story to tell and you either sat down to listen to it or you didn't. He wasn't going to use trickery or slight of hand to capture your attention. Lagercrantz just falls right in line with the rest of the Fiction Hall Monitors. Every rule is followed to the letter, and yeah the story is compelling but the rigidity with which the rules are adhered to is distracting and disorientating to say the least. The book is only 431 pages long and it took 410 pages to get to the point. This book felt like it was pandering to us the audience and to the characters. In the past books, Lisbeth's abilities came into play because the situation called for them. In this book its like the book that calls for the abilities. Lagercrantz has put the cart before the horse. Everything revolves around Lisbeth's abilities. Ok so if you want everything to revolve around Lisbeth and her hacking abilities then this book should be her book, but she is largely absent. The bad guys get more page space than she does. Which is a shame. Lisbeth Salander is a literary treasure and she should be treated with the respect she has earned. The Girl in the Spider's Web feels like poorly conceived fan fiction. My Hope if the Series Continues: That Lagercrantz sits down and reads the Millennium till he can quote a line from any page and the he really starts to study it. I want him to find a way to stick to the Larsson school of writing fiction because following the rules is boring and Salander and Blomkvist deserve better than that. I think it would really open up his writing and give him a freedom he might enjoy.

Salander's back with a vengeance... and it's very good By Craig M Sisterson THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB by David Lagercrantz, translated by George Goulding (MacLehose Press, 27 August 2015)Reviewed by Craig SistersonShe's back. After all the waiting, anticipation, and controversy, Lisbeth Salander is back.It starts with a hand, beating rhythmically on a mattress in an unknown bedroom. Why is the hand beating? Whose hand is it? Whose bedroom? What does it mean?None of those questions are answered until much later in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, and by then David Lagercrantz has taken readers on a heck of an absorbing ride.Let's address the elephant in the room: not everyone will be happy with this novel. Many people in the books world seem to have decided to avoid it or dislike it on principle: that no-one should continue Stieg Larsson's series, the three books of an intended ten that he'd written but never published before his heart attack. But those who approach THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB with at least a partially open mind will find themselves pleasantly surprised; it's a very good book. It's terrific to see Salander, who is much more than an antisocial goth hacker, back fighting against injustice in a new adventure. In her own inimitable way.Undoubtedly the creation of Salander was Stieg Larsson's greatest genius in his initial trilogy: while his tales were swirling epics addressing some dark issues simmering below the seemingly perfect surface of Scandinavian society, Salander was the lightning rod that elevated the stories into something more.In THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB Lagercrantz does a fantastic job at delving deeper into Lisbeth Salander, offering readers more of an insight into this 'grown up version of Pippi Longstocking' (as Larsson considered her). Lagercrantz treads the fine line between providing more texture about an enigmatic character, without losing the mystery and uncertainty that makes them so compelling in the first place.Salander is the kind of iconic character who doesn't even need to be in the room to have a presence. Like James Bond, Zorro, Robin Hood, or Sherlock Holmes, she casts a shadow over a wider world, lingering in the minds and hearts of those she's touched, friends and foes alike.Early on in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, Mikael Blomkvist is battling against money-driven evisceration of Millennium, the magazine he loves, when he meets a potential source in a bar to discuss a story tip. Things are stock-standard, and Blomkvist's eyes are glazing as he listens to chat about technology and corporate espionage, when he - and the reader - is suddenly electrified by the passing mention of a female hacker. From there, the story becomes much more interesting, for Blomkvist and the reader. As Blomkvist delves deeper, the story gets bigger and bigger. A world-renowned Swedish computer scientist, a verifiable genius, has seemingly abandoned his work and boarded himself up in his home. He wants to talk to Blomkvist, but is attacked before they can meet. His work has disappeared, and the only witness is an autistic child, who now becomes the target of a shadowy criminal organisation.Lagercrantz does well juggling all the players in this tale, from the driven staff of the NSA, who see spying on everyone as the way to protect their country's interests, to Eastern European gangsters, Swedish authorities, and dangerous figures from Salander's own past. While Salander and Blomkvist are the stars, there is a broad cast of fascinating characters who add texture and intrigue - and Lagercrantz does an elegant job keeping THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB building then racing along rather than becoming convoluted. For those who love Scandinavian crime for the way it delves into social and personal issues, there is plenty of that on offer in the fourth Salander book, from issues of privacy, what the public is entitled to know, to the various ways technology can be used and abused, the changing face of the media, and much more. For me however, it is the evocation of Salander, who is one of the finest characters created in contemporary fiction, which is the real highlight of THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB. Much like Christopher Nolan did with his tremendous re-imagining of Batman, Lagercrantz delves deeper into Lisbeth while keeping her very much who she is. We see more and understand more, but remain fascinated, intrigued, and unsure. And when the final page came, I was no longer doubtful of whether the books should be continued or not. In fact, I am very much hoping that we will see more from Lagercrantz, Blomkvist and Salander in future. This review was first published on the Crime Watch website: http://kiwicrime.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/review-girl-in-spiders-web.html

By wK The book is not only artistically done, it also tells the history of how one critical tool changed the game for American farmer's in the 20th Century. I applaud the author for his dedication to high quality products that speak to our Country's agrarian roots --roots that are slipping away from us with every new subdivision and the industrial farming complex stomping out family farms. Klancher did it again!

By Jay Paul For those who don’t know, a personal training certification by The American Council on Exercise, or ACE, is recognized as one of the gold standard certifications! Employers and potential clients will recognize this certification and will be more likely to hire you as a certification by ACE implies that you know your stuff! However, they do not just hand out these certifications to anyone. The test portion of this exam is said to be extremely challenging, which is why this book has helped me so much in learning important material, and gaining confidence. This book covers topics such as: Anatomy, basic first aid, strength training techniques, and even strategies to utilize while taking your certification exam to help you improve your score! The book even contains a practice exam with an answer key which will really help you accurately gauge how prepared you are to take the certification exam! What I like best about this book is that it is written in language that anybody can understand. Whether you are a complete beginner to the exercise world, or a seasoned athlete, you will have no trouble understanding the content of this book. One thing I would have liked to have seen in this book is some pictures or diagrams. While the text did a great job explaining most of these concepts, there are some concepts that pictures would have done a much better job at illustrating such as testing BMI using body fat calipers, demonstration proper range of motion, etc.Overall, I thought this was a very insightful book, and after reading it I feel much more prepared to take my ACE personal training certification!I received this product to test in exchange for an honest review. As someone who uses customer reviews to guide my own purchases, I take reviewing products seriously. Please know that my rating of this product was in no way biased.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great value. Great info. By B. Great summary of the manual, and the practice test was very similar to the real test.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Go-to guide By Michael For a very high level complex test, this simplifies it. It relieves nerves and provides tips only an expert would know. The organization is easy to follow and the content is easy to read. The book is thick enough to be all encompassing, yet thin enough to not be overwhelming. The content is vast in nature, yet it speaks to those needing that extra boost in confidence to really pass the exam.As someone that has test anxiety and wants that boost to be able to really feel confident and secure in going into the exam, I feel this book aids in that. It is no secret exams like this are costly both in money and time. Typically the test taker is worn out emotionally and physically after a session. Hopefully this book takes care of some of that.It really seems to be a five star book in every way. Even the font is easy to read. It should be a go-to guide for those studying for this test. I got this product in exchange for my unbiased review.

You gotta know that this took a huge amount of effort to clarify the mysterious world of wine into graphics that take mere seconds to understand. I couldn't be more proud. It's a lot of fun forcing on it friends and then seeing them light up with instant understanding. The page that explains how to write useful personal wine notes, for example, instantly organizes the way you do your evaluations of wine.

By Bob Tobias I have been using Karen MacNeil’s “The Wine Bible” as a reference for as far back as I can remember. It’s 900+ pages are chock full of facts, anecdotes, and descriptions of all things wine related. There is a new edition coming out in a few months, and it will be interesting to see if it follows the same path as this book. Because…The folks at Wine Folly have distilled (sorry) that information into a book that’s 75% smaller (250ish pages) and with I would wager 1% of the word count. They do that with clear, MEANINGFUL, and consistent graphics that convey much of the same, and in some cases more of the information in the Bible, quickly and effectively. The book has three sections: - Fundamentals: 40 pages on how to buy, taste, handle, and pair wines. Everything you would need to know to obtain and appreciate wine. - Styles: This is my favorite part. It is 130 pages describing varietals and blends. The wines are grouped by Style, Sparkling, Light-bodied white, Full-bodied white, etc. Each style section begins with a one-sentence description of each wine it contains along with a one-page graphic showing the typical manufacturing process for it. After that, each wine in the group is given a two-page spread that, thanks to powerful visuals, presents a wealth of information, including its taste profile, dominant flavors, possible flavors, where it grows, shelf life, expected price range, and pairings. This is a major and much-appreciated departure from MacNeil’s book, which presents wines by region so to read up on a Pinot Gorgio, for example, you had to jump across a number of chapters. - Regions: This is essentially a pivot table of the Styles section, summarizing each growing region and the wines grown there. There is also a complete index.A friend of my had a great suggestion when she saw the book; this book would go great with wine tastings. Not the whole book, necessarily, just the pages relevant to the wines being presented. That would be the left side of each two-page spread. A few quick snaps with your cellphone camera beforehand and surreptitious glances at it now and then during the event can turn you into the star.I received a copy of this book with not further obligation so I could give you this review.Final note: You have to love a book that lists Petroleum as one of the possible dominant flavors of a Riesling.

22 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Highly enjoyable! By HappyCamper Such a lovely and well thought out book. The format provides you with building blocks for a better understanding of wine, wine regions, tasting profiles, the storage of wine, food pairings and the book includes flavor wheels for pretty much every varietal you can think of. This is definitely wine novice-friendly guide in that you can skim it for as much info as you care to know... but it's also a great reference for a true aficionado who wants to dig deeper or use it as a quick reference or review. The graphics make the presentation of info easy to grasp and fun to read, and the content is well written. I really like the phonetic help with some of the regions - "Blaufränkisch" wasn't exactly part of my vocabulary before. Using it in a sentence will be MUCH easier now that I have this book. :DDon't miss the glossary of terms in the back - and the index! Definitely going to get a few more copies for holiday gifts this year.

“Why would I need a book on how to take notes? Notes are just notes; they’re not a big deal”. “At the end of the day, everyone has their own way to take notes.” “Anyway, no one taught me how to take notes in school or in college.” “It comes naturally.” “I feel like I always knew how to take notes! It’s just notes. It’s not rocket science!” “Notes are just notes.” FALSE. Scientists have found that note taking can be as mentally demanding as playing chess can be for an expert. While you take notes, you listen carefully to the lecturer, you process the new material, you organize it in your working memory, and you finally write down what you think is most important. All this happens while someone is talking at an average speed of three words per second and someone is writing down at an average speed of one-third of a word per second. It doesn’t sound easy now, does it? Notes are an important tool for learning. We don’t take notes just to record a few facts so we can review them later. Learning happens as we take notes. Taking notes the right way leads to good study practices, better performance on exams, and long-term retention of information. “It comes naturally.” FALSE. Note taking is not obvious or intuitive. Research has shown that students fail to capture 40% of the main points in a typical lecture. First-year students capture only 11%. In some studies, even the best note takers seem to record less than 75% of the important information. People think they take good notes until they’re told they don’t. Few of us have consciously thought about how we take notes (let alone how to improve the quality of them). We often reproduce the lecturer’s phrases verbatim. We don’t save time by systematic use of abbreviations. We fail to become a “good psychologist” of our lecturer. We fail to pick up his enthusiasm. We fail to interpret the tone of his voice. We fail to read his body language. And the result is that we fail to take good notes. “Anyway, no one taught me how to take notes in school or in college.” TRUE. Educators believe that students are able to assess the quality of their notes and follow good practices. However, studies have shown the exact opposite. The fact that there isn’t a course in college dedicated to the art of taking notes (or learning in general) makes students believe that this is a natural skill that they can perfect with practice over the course of their studies. “At the end of the day, everyone has their own way to take notes.” TRUE. In this book, you may be surprised to learn that I don’t make any references to different types of note-taking systems like those that other books do. The reason is that it’s the practices behind the note taking that matter most. For example, you should not copy the lecturer’s phrases word for word, but generate the main points in your own words. And you should leave space on your notes for adding comments and testing yourself later. I encourage students to use the Cornell note-taking system because it utilizes most of the principles of effective note taking. No matter which note-taking system you decide to follow, the cognitive effort you will have to expend is equally high. Note taking may not be rocket science, but it’s definitely science—cognitive science. And cognitive science has produced a lot of useful insights that we can use now to take better notes. This book presents these insights in simple words, so you can make the most of your notes and use them to study effectively. The title of this book is How to take good notes. However, note taking is just one part of the picture. Note taking is much broader in the context of this book. We take notes so we can interact with them later. What matters most is what we do with our notes after we finish taking them. So if you want to Notes can do so many good things for you. They hold all your learning efforts. Treat them well. Look after them.

On the streets and even in the market, food is being prepared with so many preservatives and calories that people tend to get fat or sick when eating them. I saw and bought this book (on a special promotion) looking to find different methods for food preparation and distribution during the day/week. I do not suffer from hypertension but, in my family we are used to eat sane and natural, so, this book will really help us.I would like to recommend this book to the whole Amazon’s community since it is a very complete one. When reading this book, you will understand more the essence of a diet, what and when to eat, and the exact measures to serve. It is full of little tips and instructions that will help adapt yourself to this strict diet.

Immerse yourself in this complete guide on Lamborghini's ultimate performance cars.

Nearly 50 years ago, upstart high-end sports car manufacturer Lamborghini set the performance car world on its ear with its stunning supercar, the Miura. Wrapped in a svelte Marcello Gandini - designed body and powered by a 350-horsepower V-12, the Miura instantly made every other car look antiquated.

In 1974, Lamborghini again shocked the automotive world with the mad Countach (an Italian expression one might utter at the sight of a beautiful woman), another Gandini masterpiece. Wide, low, and menacing, the original Countach completely recalibrated the supercar template.

The Diablo replaced the Countach in 1990 and was the last of the Lamborghini supercars under the auspices of the "original" company. Audi acquired the company in 1997 and would bring significant German efficiency to bear, turning out supercars to a new template: the Murielago in 2001, the Gallardo in 2003, the Reventon in 2008, the Aventador in 2011, and, most recently, the appropriately named Huracan.

Each one is an ultimate car. Many were collector vehicles from the moment they rolled off the production line. Beneath their stunning bodywork lie chassis and powerplants bristling with the best technology of their respective eras. Lamborghini's latest supercars zip from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 3 seconds and hit top speeds in excess of 220 miles per hour. Their prices are equally staggering.

Lamborghini Supercars 50 Years is devoted exclusively to all of Lamborghini's ultimate performance cars. No enthusiast of these world-class sports cars will want to miss it!

    Review

"The thorough research, the amusing and informative anecdotes and the sumptuous photos combine to make this a book well worthy of such an esteemed lineage. Car enthusiasts and lovers of fine art alike will enjoy spending time with this tribute to one of the most successful car companies on the planet - learn something new, confirm your prior research or simply marvel at the beauty that has been wrought from metal by the artisans at Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy." - HauteLiving.com

"Codling has, to this reader, certainly done his research on his subject. Moreover, and to the book's great benefit, the author doesn't make it a history textbook full of facts and dates. Instead, he tells a story that for almost anyone is eminently readable. The book's pictures are wonderful, with illustrations, and some period archive material. Contemporary photography from James Mann, who has shot other Motorbooks titles, is crisp. A dearth of technical and engineering information for the more than casual enthusiast is there for the gleaming. Overall, an enjoyable, and well-published book for any actual or aspiring Lamborghini owner or enthusiast." - Petrolicious.com

"It;s no secret: We know you love cars. From your muscled-up Mustangs and Corvettes to your super exotic Bugattis and pimped out Bentleys, you love anything on four wheels and there's nothing wrong with that. Those cars, however, aren't Lamborghinis and we know most guys have a special place in their hearts for the Lambo. If you're one of those guys, you're going to love looking back at the amazing history of the supercar with Stuart Codling in his book, Lamborghini Supercars: 50 Years, featuring stunning photography by James Mann." - MankindUnplugged.com

"Stuart Codling has authored a 224-page hardcover tribute to Lamborghini's mid-engine flagships. Exciting photography by James Mann is combined with Lamborghini-supplied images to create a visually arresting historical overview. This coffee table-worthy book is a genuine bargain." - Hemmings Sports & Exotics

"The lore of the brand unfolds quickly and smoothly in Lamborghini Supercars 50 Years, by author Stuart Codling and photographer James Mann. There are engaging highlights on significant engineers and designers. There are historic photos, concepts and prototypes and many twists and turns, myths and misnomers -- not all of them glorious or successful but always fortifying." - San Diego Union Tribune

"Enjoy big, bold photography as you trace the lineage of Lamborghini's most infamous, outrageous, and gorgeous supercars..." - Automobile Magazine

"It's a tale spanning of 50 years of constant one-upmanship, in which each successive Lamborghini aims farther, faster and more extreme than its predecessor. In addition to being a parade of fine photographs of beautiful cars, Lamborghini Supercars 50 Years provides technical details of the many variants of each model, and background information about the men who designed and engineered them." - TopSpeed.com

Lamborghini Supercars 50 Years By Jose Lopez Lamborghini Supercars 50 Years:From The Groundbreaking Miura to Today's Hypercars-Foreword by Fabio Lamborghini,Motorbooks,2015,Hardcover.I have always been a Big Fan of Lambos more so than Ferrari since I was a kid, specifically the Countach of the 80s of which I grew up with as Most 80s and 90s Kids did.(Then the Diablo of Course)This book includes the Countach Models as well as Another model just as dear to me or more so the Miura(one picture of the Miura Jota only however)and it's versions,as well as the First Lamborghinis,The History whether Legend or fact of how Mr.Lamborghini Really decided to jump into the business, even though he was already a successful businessman so perhaps as the author points out it was more of a business decision. The First Models such as the 350 and 400 models, the personalities such As Giotto Bizzarrini(of particular interest to me)Bob Wallace and others. The Designers, engineers all the way to the current Asterion(Not shown but Which most are aware of,Despite it being a "Hybrid" Supercar or Hypercar which is silly and Hybrids are not the in thing among real gearheads.)The Different owners up to the now Current AUDI ownership and The Hurracan which sadly is based much on Audi's Underpinnings. The book is lavishly illustrated with period photos as well as behind the scenes pictures all to please even the most discriminating enthusiast whether or not they are familiar Lamborghini fanatics or have a passing interest,The Lamborghini is a Legend and despite much disinformation out there and plenty of material this book is a welcome addition and a refreshing take on the History of the Brand's hypercars.

There is just something about the lines and the power of those cars that speak to me and always have. I have built a virtual fantasy garage if you will of cars that I would own. However, I would also sneak in a little sleek Italian super car into that fantasy collection of mine. That is why I absolutely love the book Lamborghini Supercars 50 years From the Groundbreaking Miura to Today’s Hypercars. The introduction starts out with an except from an interview with Ferruccio Lamborghini that tells the story about where he got the idea to make a car. He had purchased a Ferrari and while he loved driving it he found that when he drove the car hard he had problems with the clutch slipping. He had to have the clutch regularly rebuilt and finally got tired of it so he went to talk to Enzo Ferrari about his car only to be told “Lamborghini, you may be able to drive a tractor but you will never be able to handle a Ferrari properly.” Which he states is when he decided embark on the endeavor to create the “perfect” car.The rest they say is history- a visual history presented lovingly in this book. Starting with the Miura P400 known as the first mid-engine Supercar and moving on to the Countach (my personal favorite), to the last true original Lamborghini - the Diablo. It goes into all the supercar models after Audi acquired Lamborghini including the Murcielago, the Gallardo, the Reventon of 2008, the 2011 Aventador and all the way to the sleek Huracan of today. The book the book gives the history of each design as well as the states of the different models along with gorgeous photos of each machine in various angles and colors. Each of the most popular models has quick stats of each car. The cars are stunningly presented and I have to say - I might not like green cars (they are my least favorite color of car) but the gorgeous Murcielago photos in this book made me have second thoughts about green cars. The physical book itself is a beautiful large 224 page 10.2 x 1 x 12.5 inch hardcover book filled with color photography and has a forward by Fabio LamborghiniThe photography of this book is top notch. Photographer James Mann brings the cars not just to live but is able to highlight the sleek rocket-like lines on the Lamborghinis to bring the speed to the pages of this book. James man is known to be one of the world’s leading car and motorcycle photographers and his work really shines in his book. His work has appeared with in and on the covers of more than 50 books and provided more of his stunning automotive visuals on and in many magazines including Classic and Sports Car, CAR Magazine, Forza, and Automobile magazines. You can read more about James on his website: JamesMann.comThe author of this book, Stuart Codling, has quite the pedigree in motorsports himself.
