Review "James has developed his Great Church Sound guide so that the true novice will become comfortably acclimated with new terms and concepts without feeling overwhelmed. Although it's organized to be used as a reference, illustrations and special call-out boxes for Terms, Tips and Important Notes make the topic approachable, digestible and fun to learn--so don't be surprised if you opt to read it cover-to-cover! This Great Church Sound guide is a wonderful resource for anyone who is led to serve in tech ministry."- Christy Kohnle, Limitless Ministries

About the Author James Wasem has been fascinated by sound and electricity from an early age. His love of music and technical gear made sound engineering and systems integration a natural pursuit. James has spent the last 20 years performing and touring in bands as a drummer, mixing live sound for churches, schools, and theatres, working as an audio systems installer and designer, and daydreaming about writing this guide. Complementing his professional audio and video skills, James is also the co-founder and CEO of www.Gigee.me – a web service created to help people stream their own live events to an online audience around the world. James and his wife Kate (who also provided the illustrations for this guide) live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Missoula, Montana.

He had a few years experience in AV at that time and it's amazing what he has been able to accomplish in the intervening years- this work is a must-have for beginners and veterans alike! He takes you step by step through terminology and theory, to explaining what each function and adjustment does and why you need to. He then gives practical examples and in-depth instructions on how to 'get it done'. Each section is cross-referenced to previous sections and there are little reminders here and there throughout the text so you have quick access to important information relevant to the subject at hand. I've been involved in audio / video systems for over 30 years (though with minimal experience in live sound) and never knew some of the tips and tricks that he reveals to the reader.James has a great sense of humor (I think you have to in live productions to keep your sanity!) and it comes through in his writing style. He doesn't talk down the the reader, he's right there with you, giving guidanceI recommend this book to anyone interested in live sound production, whether a beginner or a veteran, there's something here for everyone!

By Craig A Mcninch My day job consists on working on computers and not so much on AV, but being a "computer guy" I usually get pulled into such tasks; may it be a small local event, the local drama club, or a church. I suspect that many AV people out there probably got into AV via similar circumstances. The thing I like about this book is that it lays out the technical details in such a way that they are not overly too complex, but have enough "meat" in it to help explain how certain things are set up and warn you on common fallacies with audio setups such as interference, poor setup, or wrong equipment. I also enjoy the author's writing style and the occasional humor that he injects into an otherwise, technical topic.I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone that regularly gets pulled into such tasks. Even if you don't, it might be a good idea to keep it on hand for yourself or any colleagues that run into such situations (let them buy it off you ;) ). Given that the price is very reasonable (under $20.00 at the time of purchase) I would say the material in this book is well worth the price.

By Christy Kohnle Unless an expert also has the gift of teaching, it can be difficult for them to effectively convey knowledge and practices that have become second-nature to them. This is especially true with a topic as complex and technical as church sound systems. James Wasem is an expert who clearly also possesses the gift of teaching. James has developed his Great Church Sound guide so that the true novice will become comfortably acclimated with new terms and concepts without feeling overwhelmed. Although it’s organized to be used as a reference, illustrations and special call-out boxes for Terms, Tips and Important Notes make the topic approachable, digestible and fun to learn—so don’t be surprised if you opt to read it cover-to-cover! And, if you do, you’ll be surprised to realize how quickly your knowledge of church sound systems has been expanded. There is so much solid, practical advice in this guide, you’ll want to pull it out as a handy on-the-job reference again and again. This Great Church Sound guide is a wonderful resource for anyone who is led to serve in tech ministry.
