When to use simple words and learn tenses too. It's very simple when you read it over and over again. On eating and shopping, you will learn to say the words, what to say when you want to order something, Not only did this book made me learn some few words in Spanish but also their culture so that when you get there, it wouldn't be so surprising. There are pointers to guide you to shop. Reflexive verbs and conjugating reflexive verbs are also discussed in this book. This book will help you learn Spanish conversationally. There is a lot more to learn if you practice it with sentences and constructing it more from now and then.Good guide.

Learn Spanish in a week By Jennifer Lara Spanish is a beautiful language, picturesque and full of emotions, but it is very difficult to learn on your own. I found this book a few weeks ago and found it a good idea to learn some Spanish before traveling to Mexico. Thanks to this book I learned more in one week than I that I learned over the years in high school. I really like the way in which the author explains everything and is easy to read. This book will not make you an expert in the Spanish overnight, but if you want to speak Spanish fluently you must practice and this book is the best tool.

This book is definitely a piece of useful book in familiarizing yourself with the Spanish language By Dorothy Red This book is definitely a piece of useful book in familiarizing yourself with the Spanish language. This book explains how to use the language easily. I like that the book included some common vocabularies as well as some common conversational words. The book will be useful if you are totally new to Spanish, but if you have a background already and are looking to polish your Spanish, you might want to look for a different one since this is mainly for beginners.

Review

"...this new edition has maintained the level of quality and quantity one has come to expect from the ACLAM publication series. In its absence, an animal research library should be considered incomplete." --Laboratory Animal Practitioner, 2003

"This book offers students of veterinary medicine with practicing or interested scientists in biology and medicine with clearly written and scientifically valid information on the animals used in biomedical research. While the well chosen photographs and illustrations are important and necessary compliments to the text information, the detailed 60-page index allows 'point-source' location of specific details...well organized, well written, and well published, this volume offers much to many who will be seeking its facts and figures." --Vet Human Toxicol, 2003

"This book is written in a clear, readable style that is informative on each topic without significant changes in style among the 32 chapters...a valuable reference for those who need this type of laboratory animal information." --Veterinary Pathology, 2003

Highly effective weapons of war that often cost millions of dollars can easily end up in a trash pile due to quick and uninformed decisions. This work is a case study on how the B-58 supersonic bomber came to a premature death in the U.S. military, largely because of infighting among military and civilian leaders, who failed to understand the value of this fantastic airplane. It was a technological marvel for its time and the very best pilots and navigators were chosen to fly this unique aircraft. At its maximum speed of 2.2 Mach (1,452 mph) it was 2½ times faster than the muzzle velocity of a .45 caliber bullet. It could fly faster and out turn must fighters of its day and was also capable of flying close to tree top level just below the speed of sound. It was nearly undetectable by enemy radars due to its speed and low radar cross section and was better at flying through heavy turbulence due to its solid delta wing design. It had a highly accurate navigation and bombing system. It had a capsule ejection system for the safety of the aircrew and was capable of getting airborne in only half the time required by other bombers. Told for the first time, this is the inside story that dispels the unproven myths surrounding the demise of the B-58 and why this magnificent airplane should have been saved. Its loss from the nuclear armory was a severe blow to our “Cold War” deterrence strength. The B-58 was a bomber that set the standard for fear in the heart of an enemy. Its loss was a strategic mistake. The author provides lessons learned and recommendations for military and civilian leaders, going forward, to hopefully prevent future blunders—like what happened to the B-58.

35 of 35 people found the following review helpful. GREAT BOOK FOR AIRCRAFT LOVERS By D. Dirga I highly recommend this book about the B-58. I flew this fantastic aircraft from 1965 to 1969. But, Col Holt tells the inside story of how politics and infighting among Air Force Generals destroyed this beautiful and highly efficient aircraft.I was a DSO (systems operator) at Little Rock Air Force Base when the wing was suddenly deactivated. Those of us stationed there were shocked when we opened up the local newspaper in October, 1969 to find out all B-58s were to be removed from service. Less than 3 weeks later, we all started getting transfer orders. Most pilots went to Vietnam, navigators to B-52s and FB-111s, and DSOs to KC-135s. By January, 3 months later, all traces of our wing and 45 B-58s were gone! I had seen military bases closed before, but nothing at the speed this happened. The sad thing was that none of us really knew why we were so suddenly removed. The most logical rumor was that Air Force was given a budget choice between keeping the B-58 and buying the newer FB-111s. Also, as time went on, we started believing the myths about maintenance problems, operating costs, accident rates, and design flaws. But, none of these were true! As an insider at the Pentagon, Col. Holt sets the record straight about how just a few Generals decided they would rather keep 4 older B-52 wings than retain the most sophisticated bomber in the Air Force. He also does a great job of dispelling all the myths that were made up about the B-58. All of us in the B-58 program were hand-picked from either B-47s or B-52s, and we knew there was no comparison with other aircraft. The B-58 was stronger, faster, and more accurate than any other bomber at the time.Again, a great book for a aircraft/military historian, or lovers of great aircraft. I flew 3 models of the B-52, the B-58, KC-135s, RC-135s, and was a staff officer with the SR-71. The B-58 was definitely the highlight of my 21 years in the Air Force. Sad day in history when it was lost!!

By Doug My wife and I just finished George's book last night and wish it were twice as long. It is not only well documented, but written beautifully. I was at SAC headquarters at the time the decision was made to send the B-58s to the bone yard . I believe Al Dugard and I were the only people in the headquarters who had ever flown the B-58. I don't think either of us were aver consulted or asked for an opinion. It was such a major error. God help us to never make such a mistake again. READ THIS BOOK! IT MAY PISS YOU OFF BUT YOU'LL LOVE IT!Colonel Doug Folts, USAF Retited

I thought at first glance I would just skim through it as I was not that interested in military aircraft. I became so engrossed after reading passages that I went back to the beginning and read page after page of this interesting historical blunder. To a civilian reading this book you may wonder how and why certain aircraft met their demise. It was well written by Col. Holt and very easy for non-military to understand why the B-58 is no longer with us.Doris Hutchins

Vegas, Viscous Exes, and Ventilators. My life felt like a fast ride on a too short highway. Coming home should be roses and rainbows, but nothing that comes out of the desert blooms free. I was most certainly not free. I’d missed my payment to Blaine, owed the last client a hundred grand I didn’t have, and my father was on his deathbed. To make matters worse, Wes was missing in action. As in, no one had seen or heard from him in three weeks. Devastation didn’t begin to explain where my mental state was at. Like anything life had thrown my way, I pulled on my big girl panties, not the sexy lacy ones I enjoyed teasing my guy with, but the kind that said, “This ass means business.” I had no choice but to make the decision I made. My ex, the man that ruined the concept of love for me, put my father in the hospital, was about to get everything he ever wanted…at least that’s what I led him to believe. *** In the ninth book of the Calendar Girl serial, Mia rushes back home to Las Vegas, Nevada. Things have taken a turn for her father, putting her into debt up to her eyeballs. Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia’s journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

Review from Abibliophobia Anonymous Book Reviews By Tonya Allen Review from Abibliophobia Anonymous Book ReviewsThis is the ninth book in the Calendar Girl series. You must read them in order. I absolutely love this series and Mia.This book is a little different, Mia stood up her September client. But she had a very good reason, it doesn’t look like her dad is going to make it. But by not going, she doesn’t get paid and now she owes the rich client $100,000. She missed her payment to Blaine, the douche of an ex, and the reason her dad is in the hospital to begin with.On top of all this, Wes is missing. The book took an unexpected twist with this. It made Mia realize, and finally admit how she really feels about Wes. I may have shouted It’s about time!“You make loving someone seem easy, when it’s only ever been hard. Being with you is like sitting on the surface of the sun without being burned. The love I have for you has changed me. Made me someone different. A woman worthy of the more you’ve promised. Our paradise.”Luckily Mia has Max there for her through all of this. Especially after the offer Blaine made her. I will admit, I was worried about what Mia would do.She is amazed by how nine months of this journey has changed her. Her family had only four people, Her, her dad, Maddy, and Gin. Now her family is huge because of the friends she has made, Max and his wife and kid(s), and she’s in love with Wes.I can’t wait to read October. I look forward to a new book in this series every month!

By Jeananna with The Book Reading Gals Audrey Carlan shows us her magic with not only erotic situations but with the suspense factor in September. (I was reminded of all that she brought us in her Trinity Trilogy in the more twisted side of this story.) The devastation that Wes is put through and the terror that Mia’s ex brings to her and those she loves comes to a head in this book.September will rival all of the other installments in this series as my favorite!! The emotion, angst, empathy and love that you feel coming from these pages… I had to take a deep breath every now and then and remind myself that these are fictional characters!!I cannot wait to see where this journey takes us but at the same time I dread seeing it all come to an end! The Pentagon's Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA, America's Top-Secret Military Research AgencyBy Annie Jacobsen

Amazon.com Review

An Amazon Best Book of September 2015: If you’re searching for an obtuse, synapse-dulling book on DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and its mission to create breakthrough military technologies, look elsewhere. Jacobsen’s nimble account of the ultra-secret R&D arm of the Defense Department engagingly details the shrouded history of the organization, starting with its genesis during the nuclear arms race and covering its efforts up through today. In her final section, Jacobsen offers solid but chilling conjectures on what covert programs DARPA is focused on now. Jacobsen (a journalist and the author of Operation Paperclip and Area 51) strikes a balance between lauding the technology leaps driven by DARPA and pointing out that the ultimate goal is to create wartime tools to guarantee U.S. dominance. DARPA’s successes include lighter machine guns (developed for slighter-bodied soldiers during the Vietnamese war and now standard U.S. issue), the Internet, GPS, and drones. Says Jacobsen, “DARPA creates, DARPA dominates, and when sent to the battlefield, DARPA destroys.” But, Jacobsen also asks, “what if some of these ‘dramatic new capabilities’ are not such a great idea?”

Hawks will find plenty of meat in here to fuel their arguments for the value of top-secret U.S. military programs. At the same time, doves will be well bolstered to pose uncomfortable questions about the worthiness of such activities in a free country. Thoughtful and nuanced, The Pentagon’s Brain will ask you to use your brain as well.--Adrian Liang

A comprehensive account of the diverse - and sometimes questionable - history of DARPA By Ash Jogalekar "The Pentagon's Brain" is a comprehensive history of DARPA which puts the activities of the agency since its formation in the 1950s in perspective. The volume starts by describing the founding of the agency as a response to the scientific and technological threat posed by the Soviet Union and describes the political maneuvering involved in making the organization as independent as possible. The book takes stock of many of the projects and paradigms DARPA has worked on since the beginning. Not surprisingly, early work focused on nuclear weapons, missile defense, spy satellites and submarine warfare, topics that were all relevant to the Cold War. With time the agency's mandate expanded to cover 'psychological warfare' and more human intelligence-centric projects. The book does a good job portraying the controversial activities of DARPA and its advisors, an elite group of scientists called the JASONS, during the Vietnam war. Later work by the agency was also not without controversy, like its advocacy of the missile defense shield Star Wars and its use of codebreaking that could be used to spy on the country's own citizens. Described too are peaceful inventions which DARPA pioneered such as health interventions on the battlefield, the Internet and the Human Terrain Project developed during the recent Iraq War which was gained at understanding populations in occupied countries; as the book says however, even such more benign endeavors often backfired since the information gained from them could cause resentment among occupied populations. For me, two aspects of the book were particularly revealing. One was the sharp profiles of leading scientists like Herbert York, John von Neumann, Edward Teller, and Nicholas Christofilos (a remarkable and colorful character; a Greek elevator mechanic who created some of the most brilliant and audacious defense-related ideas in DARPA's history). The second was the accounts of diverse modern technologies that DARPA has contributed to (for obvious reasons, many weapons technologies like directed energy weapons are stated but not discussed). For instance, while drones are commonplace on the battlefield today, their first use was during the Vietnam war. Similarly I was not aware that the AR-15/M16 rife was invented by DARPA scientists. My minor gripe with the book was that it does not delve as much into the science as it could have and seems to contain some errors; for instance Enrico Fermi never told President Truman that the hydrogen bond was an evil thing (he voiced that opinion in an analysis by the General Advisory Committee of the Atomic Energy Commission), and a JASON report on the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Vietnam was not commissioned by Robert McNamara (it was inspired by a careless remark by a high-ranking general at a party).Nonetheless, "The Pentagon's Brain" is a comprehensive and well-researched account of the myriad varieties of science and technology that DARPA has worked on and how they have affected many modern aspects of our technological existence. And as the narrative concludes, while DARPA has inevitably contributed to peaceful technologies (and these tend to be always emphasized in popular news sources), it should not be forgotten that the principal mandate of the organization remains the development of the weapons of tomorrow. Thus there will always be a moral ambiguity to the work done by DARPA.

At age 73, Ms Jacobsen's writing gives clarity to 'history' that I have lived through. Her writing in this, as in her previous two books, makes this history come alive as she chronicles now unclassified, top secret defense initiatives of the last 60 years. Not only does she delve into the complicated technical issues, but she makes it compelling as she captures the perspectives of those intimately involved. Found it fascinating to learn about our Defense Department's top secret and controversial research and development agency - DARPA. For me it was a page-turner.

I am the co-author of GPS Declassified: From Smart Bombs to Smartphones, a narrative history of its invention and development. Recently, I was listening to a podcast of an interview with Annie Jacobson at the Spy Museum. I was surprised that she credited DARPA with the creation of GPS, since NONE of my research supports this. So I got a copy of her book to see what it claims. On pages 249-250, she makes many incorrect statements:“DARPA’s pioneering GPS program was called TRANSIT.” Transit was the first satellite based navigation system; it was conceptualized in 1958. DARPA played a major role in the program by funding it. GPS refers to a later system begun in 1973. Transit was NEVER called GPS.“After several failed launches, TRANSIT finally took up residence in space in June 1963. To deny enemy access to this kind of precise targeting information, the system was originally designed with an offset built in, called selective availability (SA).” Selective availability was a degradation of the civilian signal for GPS. It was not used on Transit, which was much less precise.“In 1973, the Pentagon ordered DARPA to create a single system shared by all the military services.” As I mentioned, she made a similar statement at the Spy Museum. This is incorrect. On April 17, 1973, Deputy Secretary of Defense William P. Clements, Jr., ordered the Air Force to be the executive service for a Joint Program Office for the Defense Navigation Satellite System (later called GPS). It was to be a joint Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Program Office. DARPA was not mentioned because it played no role in the 1973 JPO. Later, DARPA funded development of miniaturized GPS receivers, but it DID NOT create the 1973 synthesis of the Navy’s Timation and the Air Force’s 621B programs (this is covered in detail in GPS Declassified). The Decision Coordinating Paper Number 121 (Revised) Defense Navigation Satellite Development Program (June 7, 1973) covers a meeting on the West Coast on June 6 and 7, 1973. There were Navy, Air Force and Army presentations. DARPA is nowhere mentioned because it was not involved in the process.Ms. Jacobsen has an endnote for page 250 which references https://archive.org/stream/DARPATechnicalAccomplishmentsandHistoricalReviewofSelectedDARPAProjectsVolume1/DARPA%20Technical%20Accomplishments%20and%20Historical%20Review%20of%20Selected%20DARPA%20Projects%20Volume%201_djvu.txt She appears to have not read this reference very closely, since it correctly states that “TRANSIT is scheduled to be replaced by the DoD Global Positioning System (GPS) which uses different technology, in 1996.” Her assertion that DARPA developed GPS in 1973 is not found in this document, so it’s unclear what the source of this fable was. Perhaps it stems from her confusion of Transit with GPS. There are eighteen references to GPS in the document, but it nowhere claims that DARPA played a role in its initial formulation in 1973. Many of the references pertain to the dual use of GPS satellites which carry nuclear detonation detection systems in addition to the navigational instruments. Phil Klass, in the 11/26/73 issue of Aviation Week and Space Technology, wrote that the [Defense Navigation Satellite System] program has been renamed the Global Positioning System. On page 253 she states that [under Secretary of Defense Harold Brown in the Carter Administration] “Global Positioning System technologies were accelerated at whirlwind speeds”. It’s true that the first Block 1 (test) GPS satellites were launched in the Carter Administration. However, in 1979 it cut back GPS from 24 to 18 satellites. This would have limited its accuracy and usefulness. When the Block 2 (operational) satellites were launched beginning in 1989, the decision was made to go back to 24 satellites. Thus, there was no acceleration of GPS under Secretary Brown; rather there were significant cut backs in the program.I have not read the rest of the book, but the sloppy research on GPS is in line with the criticisms of her earlier books, and calls into question the factual bases for other DARPA projects she discussed. I posted a brief criticism of the book on her website. I commend her for allowing it to appear. That demonstrates that she is a person of integrity. Perhaps she will correct the section on GPS in a subsequent edition of the book. There is a vast literature on the creation of GPS (and controversy about the relative importance of the Navy’s Timation system, which my dad Roger Easton began in 1964, versus the Air Force’s 621B). It’s surprising that Ms. Jacobsen appears to be unaware of it.GPS Declassified: From Smart Bombs to Smartphones

Why We Created the Memory Improvement Games

Having a passion for creating innovative educational books, we discovered that even though the market is flooded with books on brain training and memory training, a gap exists for books that actually help readers understand and practice the complicated tools and techniques described. Many books in the market do a great job describing popular memory training methods in 100, 200, or 300 pages of detailed theory, but they usually lack illustrations, adequate examples, and fun exercises, which can be quite intimidating for beginners. Would you enjoy reading such a book? And by the time you finish it, will you have practiced enough to assimilate those techniques described? Let’s not forget. A lesson not practiced is a lesson forgotten. This is why we decided to create the Memory Improvement Games Everyone loves a little challenge, and everyone loves puzzles. Imagine a book that stimulates your brain and gives you lots of fun with illustrated puzzles, at the same time teaching you some really cool memory improvement techniques. This is the book that we visualized.

How This Book is Organized

Memory Improvement Games consists of three main parts. The first part of the book contains ten fun puzzles for warming up your brain and checking your memory skills in remembering images, shapes, numbers, and text. In the second part, you will be introduced to the most popular memory techniques, which will be explained to you in bite-sized, easy lessons. You will learn The Link Method, the Peg System, the Major System, the Memory Palace, and much more! Some of the games in this part will help you practice these techniques, while others are just for fun—a relaxing break between lessons. The third part contains games only. Its purpose is to challenge you and to help you practice further the techniques presented in the second part.

Because I just can't stop solving all these puzzles and challenging my memory. I am am just really busy with work lately and this book has taken all my attention. Solving puzzles for me has always been a great diversion! When I am on them, I am 100% focused trying to figure out the solution. Here you will find a nice collection of varied puzzles. I learned a lot. I was not aware of the memory pallace. That's a great technique! Excellent book. Looking forward to more like these! Thanks, Angelo.

By Jewel This book is loaded with great tips on how to improve your memory; one's that I've never really contemplated. I've recently gotten into meditation and have looked at it as a way to slow down but did really correlate that with the added benefit of improving my memory. It only makes sense that it would have an impact though! Of course more sleep, memory exercises and note taking is good but the perspective I gained from this book as it relates to meditation is something I won't forget! ;)The author does a nice job with their take-action approach. And I like the examples used. They certainly jogged my thinking forward. In particular the Memory exercise was my favorite. This book provides a great primer on some of the techniques use, and it is more up to date as far as 21st century ways of training your mind I quite enjoyed it!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Challenge Accepted! By Rhaenys I've always thought that I have a really good memory and was a bit smug with the book thinking 'oh this'll be easy'. I was wrong. Apparently, I am good in a certain type of quick memorization only and there are a lot of other ways to improve my memory. The book explained what type of memory technique is effective in different situations. The games inside the book are definitely challenging and I had to go 2 to 3 times on some of them until I got them perfectly. It's very fun and with constant practice, it really is probable to improve your memory as you unconsciously nitpick clues in your surroundings. Highly recommended!

Your time would be better spent washing your clothes, vacuuming, or counting to ten... Speaking of which I don't even know where to begin with what's all wrong with this story. I can only assume I accidentally read a story meant for young teens. This was VERY hard to finish. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Should I start with the fact that the hero would be out fighting for days and never come back with so much as a scratch? Not to mention that in the whole entire story of them constantly battling it out, that not even one of his people died? Geez don't get me started on the villain. In the story the author talks about how the dragons are immortal and how hard it is to kill them (they have been around for about 300 years) but all of a sudden in the end "thousands" of them are killed by "hundreds" of good dragons... say what now? I'm not even going to discuss Vivian, it just isn't worth the time. Should I even touch upon the Time Machine? This book was just ridiculous... In the story it was as easily destroyed as Humpty Dumpty was, with about the same amount of protection. You would think this being the future and all, that "SOME" type of security would be in place to protect the Time Machine but no... ummmm no.... You would think it would be hidden underground and VERY heavily guarded but no... no... It was as easy as walking up to some kids on the beach and stepping in their sand castle. Ridiculous...

53 of 59 people found the following review helpful. Interesting premise, but.... The book might appeal to New Adult readers By Marie I bought this based on the opening snippet and reviews, I should have noticed they were mostly not verified purchases. The story is repetitive and juvenile. Vivian was cruelly self obsessed and foolish. If you are kidnapped by an abusive ex and he says now my enemy will never get to have his desired heir with you; you never say, too late, I'm already pregnant. Regularly feeding women moldy bread crusts, really...I could continue to rant about the ludicrous plot but I've already spent too much time on this book.

The male was sweet and considerate yet she insisted on being a class A beeyoch. I gave up on the book when they made a deal for her to produce an heir and then immediately run away to a parallel universe.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Excellent GRE resource By JackOfMostTrades The first thing I noticed about this practice question GRE book is that it is published by Kaplan, so perhaps Kaplan is trying a marketing campaign that includes selling a product without the Kaplan name. Although I don't like Kaplan's GRE material particularly, I find this book excellent. First, it eschews the general quantitative and verbal 'reviews'; the quantitative section purportedly help you catch up with years of math concepts studied in the dim past (or not at all), and provides the 'Kaplan' way of solving quant. questions, which I've never felt were very elucidating; and the verbal review, which attempts to make up for the three to five college English courses "you" never paid attention in, and/or never took seriously. On the other hand, these questions work inductively, first, providing you with lots of questions, which you will either be clueless about, tentative about, or clear about, thereby letting you know what you need to study for the quant GRE section, and the verbal section does the same primarily, but what I found is that the EXPLANATIONS for the verbal section questions are very good. They actually pinpoint why the correct answers are correct. If I were taking the GRE now, I'd use a book like this one, and perhaps cherry-pick the Manhattan Prep guides that covered the material I found myself weakest with.I'm sure there may be complaints that the questions don't reflect those on the actual GRE, but the breadth of questions now presented on the GRE, particularly on the quant. section is so wide, that just getting into the test taking habit should we worth the price of the book.

Throw it in your bag/back/backpack and take the questions while you are in between classes, on your break, waiting in line. Good challenging questions in the same format you would get on the GRE test. And best thing is that especially for the quant problems you get answers with explanations. So if you get the problem wrong you can go over why you got it wrong and and hopefully get better. Not a ton of explanation is given, but enough to set you in the right direction. The obvious plus of this book is the sheer volume of questions. It is a lightweight paperback, so it is easy to bring with you anywhere. I have not tried the online portion yet, but I will update this review when I do.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. excellent for more practice, web site was blank By S.E. Poza For some users, this will be an inadequate book because there isn't a lot in the way of actual instruction or explanation. For me, however, this was precisely what I was looking for because I wanted just more practice questions. In fact, one of the things that I have not liked about other GRE prep materials was the plethora of explanation relative to questions. Though I realize that these questions are not identical to those on the actual GRE, they do orient your thinking toward the types of questions you'll need to answer. As someone who hasn't been in school for awhile, I wanted to be able to get my head back into the space of what it's like to think for tests and work out the sort of problems that I haven't experienced for some time. This book allows me to do that and gives me plenty to work with. It's also very economical for the volume of practice it offers. The main problem is that the book's marketing makes a big deal about the added online questions, but I couldn't get anything out of the site when accessing it. Others had the same issue. I just got a blank screen (see picture). When you're already pushing yourself to be motivated to study, running into technical errors that block your way is very frustrating and enough to make you decide to go off and do something else. I think the Grockit folks need to up their game on the technical end if they're going to sell you added content with the book. Those 1000 questions of the 1600 promised being online and then not actually being accessible greatly undermines the value of the product.

It sounds like it might become a great story but the errors (Alton become Aton) (trail become trial). I will try again if it gets edited at least once (these errors were in the first few pages) !! Too distracting. Try again - Same page - (Jeffrey becomes Jeffery). Ugh. I'll slug on for a while longer.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Loved it! By Beth Rodriguez I loved the first three books in the series. Alton and Mallory's relationship starts off based on friendship, then evolves into true love. What I really enjoyed was that they do not have sex but the relationship shows true love, regardless . Each of the three mysteries had me guessing, almost until the very end.

300 stunning maps from all periods and from all around the world, exploring and revealing what maps tell us about history and ourselves.

Map: Exploring the World brings together more than 300 fascinating maps from the birth of cartography to cutting-edge digital maps of the twenty-fist century. The book's unique arrangement, with the maps organized in complimentary or contrasting pairs, reveals how the history of our attempts to make flat representations of the world has been full of beauty, ingenuity and innovation.

Selected by an international panel of curators, academics and collectors, the maps reflect the many reasons people make maps, such as to find their way, to assert ownership, to record human activity, to establish control, to encourage settlement, to plan military campaigns or to show political power. The selection includes the greatest names in cartography, such as James Cook, Gerard Mercator, Matthew Fontaine Maury and Phyllis Pearsall, as well as maps from indigenous cultures around the world, rarely seen maps from lesser'known cartographers, and maps of outstanding beauty and surprising individuality from the current generation of map makers.

20 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing Reproductions By California Prof I was quite disappointed. The maps are not only so much reduced as to be mostly illegible, but the reproductions are mediocre, using a relatively coarse half-tone screen and less than vibrant colors. Why reviewers have not noted these limitations is a mystery. Phaidon could and should have done much better -- especially given the Introduction's claim that "this book puts the emphasis back on the experience of viewing rather than of describing. The accompanying photo shows an enlargement of a typical square inch of a reproduction.Compare, e.g., MoMA's *The Printed Picture* by Richard Benson (2008), whose illustrations are superbly reproduced (even viewed with a powerful loupe the screen is so fine as to be virtually undetectable) and with thumbnail enlargements of small sections in the case of reproductions that had to be much reduced.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. The World through the eyes of Cartographers By Ron Crosier The organization and comparisons of maps of the ancient, old and new and of many cultures make for hours of pleasure.

A nice compendium stretching over 2,000 years with 300 maps.I thought the tick marks like graticules at the top and the bottom of the page to be an unwelcome design choice.Check out this summary: http://www.topophilia.com/2015/10/12/map-exploring-the-world/

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. and each edition adds whatever is latest and greatest in the world of DIY By Bryan Lee Although code requirements for plumbing don't change all that often, I always make sure to own the most recent edition of this classic DIY book. Unlike books from any other publisher, Black & Decker books are regularly updated to include the most recent information, and each edition adds whatever is latest and greatest in the world of DIY. I have now owned all six editions of this book, and the investment has been a good one, as it's no exaggeration to say that I save many times the cost of the book by doing my own repairs. If you question this, just call a plumber and get a bid for him to come and replace your kitchen faucet and garbage disposer. And after the shock wears off, have a look at this book to see how easily you can do it yourself. I have many books on home DIY, and this one is one of the very best.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. View in-hand before buying- By tom s It's best if you have done some minor plumbing before. The book doesn't explain how to remove a push-pullbathroom faucet core, for instance, or go into any detail how to replace a garbage disposal. I'm giving thisbook to a friend that knows something about plumbing already. The complete book of home Wiring has amuch better method of instruction for that application. The book did show garbage disposal replacement, butdidn't go into enough detail for someone like myself who has very limited plumbing experience. Hence myrecomendation for someone with plumbing knowledge already.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I picked up a few black & decker books from ... By Tiffany I picked up a few black & decker books from amazon prior to purchasing our first home. It's definitely a fixer upper. We knew there'd be trouble. Immediately there was. This book has allowed us to sail through the worries of shoddy plumbing with much greater understanding and the ability to do basic repairs. We still called a plumber for the big stuff, but at least I understood what he was doing.
