Not meant to be read cover-to-cover, but in a pick-and-choose style. The book starts out with workshop and tool basics for folks new to the game. The projects are then divided up by type so you can quickly find those that match your interests. Categories are:* Electronics* Microcontrollers and Microcomputers* 3D Printing and CNC Fabrication* Robots and Drones* Music and Audio* Photography and Video* Fun and Games* Crafts and WearablesThere is something for everyone in this book. I often find that the instructions are more of a guide than a true step-by-step. There are places where you can customize, change, and modify as much as you want and many places where you just have to experiment to get it right. That's part of the fun of making! Projects range from simple afternoon entertainment to builds taking a weekend or more, but resulting in your own drone. This is a great book for adults or kids. Even if you don't think you'll build any of the projects, it is a great resource to flip through for inspiration when you are running low on ideas. If you have an iPad or other color reading device, I'd save the dough and grab the kindle version unless you MUST have paper in the shop. I find my laptop or tablet is always around though, so paper is only preferable if you really want it and feel like spending the extra $13. The paper is high quality and print is gorgeous though. If you have many issues of make magazine, you'll recognize some of the articles, but it's nice to have them in a categorized collection. Good job Make! Now go get building.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent book for anyone who loves to create By Radar626 This is the latest addition to our cache of MAKE books, and it doesn't disappoint. My hubby loves to build things, and MAKE has been a great source of ideas for him. The projects in this books run from an easy afternoon organizing your workspace to several days (or weeks) and building your own UAV (drone). The book doesn't throw new Makers (as they are called) into the deep end, but starts out with the ins and outs and whys and hows, such as the choosing the right tools for the job, how to maintain them, how to store them, and more. Each project is presented in detail and laid out in a step-by-step fashion. It describes what you will be making, the tools you will need, the materials you will need, and what your finished project will do. Each step almost always has a picture or drawing to go along with it so you are easily able to follow along. Along the way MAKE gives little lessons about the science behind the item you are creating, which is a nifty little bonus.For me, I think the best part about the book and the projects it provides is that MAKE doesn't require you to be a robotics engineer or computer programmer in order to build some pretty cool things like a Virtual Reality Baja Buggy. Not all of projects are inexpensive side, though. If you don't already have many of the tools, there can be quite an investment involved before you are able to even consider starting a project, let alone beginning to purchases the materials necessary for that project.Even if you aren't into programming, electronics, or robotics, there are other options for you in this book. MAKE has included projects on making soap, using PVC pipes for vases or building little tables, and even adding LEDs to your kid's favorite pair of sneakers. This and the other MAKE books offer so many wonderful and amazing projects and creative ideas for pretty much everyone and every skill level. I've given these books as gifts many times and the recipients have loved them and gone on to create many very cool things (one was their very own RC rolling robot, another uses them for inspirations for classroom experiments as she's a middle school science teacher). For parents looking for ideas for family night, to pull the kids away from video games, or to get a child interested in science, these MAKE books are perfect.I really cannot recommend these books enough. I you aren't interested in using them to make anything, they still provide an engrossing afternoon of reading because a person can learn quite a bit of science from these books.

This is a nicely bound, durable paperback chock full of interesting projects, ranging from Arduino and Raspberry Pi tech projects to PVC furniture and "bang sticks." The photographs and instructions (and cautions, in some cases!) are clearly set forth. This volume collects a lot of popular projects from wearable electronics designed by people at Adafruit to home-made stereo amplifiers. It helps if you have some basic soldering/making skills, but the projects are explained well enough that you don't need to be a mechanical or electrical engineer to assemble them. Loads of fun and some useful ideas. Highly recommended for adventurous hobbyists.

By KMcKinzie For the first time I have been able to increase my reading speed after taking numerous "speedreading" courses. The phenomenal aspect of The Key to Study Skills is the authors teach their system of study skills in a clear, easy to follow manner. By actually doing the exercises and being persistent, I have been amazed at my ability to remember what I am studying. I have "gone back to school" and therefore was looking for a way to get through the voluminous reading assignments. Thankfully I found Dr. Lev and Anna's book. I would suggest this book for anyone who wishes to increase their ability to study well, remember what you study, increase your and reading speed.

This book is definitely worth your time and money, especially since it's only $3 on a Kindle.

I became interested in speed reading a few months ago after taking Superlearner Udemy course. The course itself is very comprehensive and useful, but I think that this book contains more detailed examples and guidelines.Anyone who is struggling with their school or work should read this book. You won't regret your time invested.

By Margaret M Hemmer I loved the background of Benghazi's history in the beginning and how it transitioned to the events of 2012. The fast paced, down to earth account given by the survivors made me swell with pride that there are good guys out there, willing to take on evil to protect others and what we should all hold dear. I would recommend this book to anyone who is on the fence about what happened that horrible day and hope they would see how everything they see in 1 minute sound bytes is not always the whole story.

277 of 298 people found the following review helpful. 13 Hours - a compelling read By Gary Ford A riveting account of what happened during the "battle of Benghazi". The book is hard to put down. It is the account of what happened during the attack on our diplomatic outpost and CIA annex by the heroic defenders of the compounds. The book describes what the State Department's security team experienced during the attack. The book contains little of the political back and forth just the facts of what happened during the attack. The book reads like a great thriller novel. The story shows heroes still exist in this world of ambivalence.

The brave surviving defenders who largely relate this sad event clearly want it this way By Newt Salamander Factual account of the desperate fight the defenders of our Benghazi outposts undertook. I bought this book 9/10 at Costco and finished early this morning 9/12. The author makes it quite clear this is purely a factual account - no politics. And there shouldn't be any. The brave surviving defenders who largely relate this sad event clearly want it this way.Kudos to the author. And Bravo Zulu to the defenders.

I was amazed how the author summarized the story well though it was really short. The story was about how criticism happened in his time and he was explaining it well to his son.

About the Author

Veteran journalist John Clor has owned, raced, worked on and written about Fords and Mustangs for nearly 40 years. After a 15-year career at The Detroit News, Clor shifted to automotive journalism with stints at AutoWeek and later Edmunds.com. He joined the Ford Special Vehicle Team in 1995 and spent the better part of the next decade working on SVT Communications, PR and Marketing. Since 2006 he’s been managing Ford Racing’s club outreach program and the “Enthusiasts” content on FordRacing.com. Clor is the author of the sold-out hardcover history book, Mustang Dynasty (2007 & 2009), editor of SVT Enthusiast magazine, and host of his own local cable-access TV show, “Cars In Context.” He’s also a member of several Ford-based car-clubs, and is the proud owner of two ’70s era Mustangs, including one he calls "a long-term project."

This one is much more. It has interviews with the engineers and Ford executives involved in creating this car, the problems they faced, and the market conditions. This book makes clear the thinking and rationale that went into the decisions designing this car. The book gives a brief history of the Mustang line, but that is not its main purpose. I was glad to see that it spends many more pages on the development of the 2015 Mustang; I already have several books on the history of the Mustang. There are also plenty of images showing some of the design ideas along the way as the car slowly took shape, and there are many interesting accounts about this process, including the decisions to build a right hand drive model for foreign markets, whether or not to have the V-6 return, and developing independent rear suspension across the line as standard equipment. There is much, much more in this book, but I won't spoil those surprises.

This book includes too much overarching Mustang history and individual perspectives on Mustang, past and present - in my opinion. I wanted more of a book full of Dave Pericak, Kemal Curic and 2015 details, exploded views etc.

A self-help book that works By Israel Drazin Although this is a short book - only 42 pages with six chapters - the book contains many very helpful ideas how to train one's brain and improve its ability. The ideas were originally used for children with attention deficit disorders - with remarkable results. The games described in detail in this book demand memory, attention, and logic to work together.The mind exercise games work just as physical exercise works to improve the body.We learn many new ideas such as most people can only retain seven (more or less) pieces of unrelated details at the same time - but this number can be increased.Michaels explains many helpful things, such as: association, remembering patterns and locations, recalling sequences, attending to simultaneous tasks, zeroing on important details, improving reactions, quick recall, fast decision-making, and much more.This book will help improve people's mind while they are having fun doing so.

In the book, author Christopher Michaels imparts readers with a relevantly detailed look at the background, mechanics and useful applications of brain training techniques and does offer up some edifying elements and truisms within this quick read.Overall the book is fairly well put together, the information is organized, the explanations comprehensible and the authors writing style is relatable, but there is a need for some attention to editing, it is frustrating to read such a short book with so much potential, that has editing issues. However, issues aside the book has promise as a good read, as it does offer some invaluable suggestions on improving, memory, attention, speed and problem solving skills. Altogether, I liked the book and would recommend it, after all who can't use some brain training help.I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Barrett *This book was exchanged for an honest reviewTrain Your Brain by Christopher Michaels is an incredibly good book! A quick read but definitely something I will go back to over and over again. I have always had a terrible short term memory and have always had to rely on list and others reminding me when something important had to happen, and frankly I was sick of it. This book taught me to find the memory games that work for me instead of the memory games that are popular, and helped shed light on where my memory needs work and how I can build it up in a way that works for me specifically, as opposed to the generic memory games you're given as a child. That frankly didn't work a bit on me personally. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who has a problem with walking into a room and forgetting what you went in there for.

By Amazon Customer Jenny ,Lawson's first book, "Let's Pretend This Never Happened," is one of my favorite books of all time--I recommend it to everyone (and I'm a bookseller, so I recommend it to a LOT of people) and so far no one has been disappointed. That book was hugely successful so there was a lot of pressure on Jenny (and anyone who follows her blog, The Bloggess, is on a first-name basis with her) to put out another similar book--a laugh-out-loud collection of stories involving her particularly unique set of adventures and somewhat bizarre sense of humor (and I mean that in the best way imaginable).It would have been completely understandable if she had caved to expectations and written another light-hearted collection of anecdotes. But Jenny is her own person and uniquely connected and attuned to her online audience so this book is a departure. In her latest book she shares quite openly the struggles she faces with various forms and degrees of mental illness and the world will be a better place for her stories. Anyone who struggles with their own demons will feel like someone finally "gets" them and that they've come home and found their tribe. Anyone who has a loved one facing similar struggles will gain a greater understanding of the pain and heartache experienced by those of us with brains wired in a slightly different way. This book is still a pee-your-pants belly laugh read--yet a treatise on understanding and living with mental illness in a world that is very slowly becoming more tolerant of those with beautiful minds.

445 of 540 people found the following review helpful. Funny, but... By Angie Hill Like Lawson's first book, Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Furiously Happy is furiously funny. Since I share the author's outlandish sense of humor, I thought this book and its premise of coping with mental illness would be uplifting. However, reading this book made me feel that she is more than a bit disconnected from the average person's experience with anxiety/depression/chronic insomnia. Being too depressed to get out of bed is probably somewhat easier for a successful blogger/author who doesn't have a 9-5 job to go to each day. Being completely unmotivated to clean one's house due to depression is likely not that big of a problem for someone who casually mentions their maid service. Feelings of failure and loneliness/alienation maybe do not affect someone as sharply when they have a best-selling book under their belt and can text Neil Gaiman for advice when troubled. Hiding from the UPS man to avoid human contact seems like a breeze compared to forcing one's self to get up each day, drag into work, and interact with coworkers when all a person wants to do is become a hermit. Buying a house in an exclusive gated community to avoid a celebrity stalker doesn't garner much pity from someone as ordinary as myself.I am sure the author's life contains its own set of challenges and stresses that are especially hard to battle while suffering from mental illness, and I likely am too judgemental to think that she has it easier than the average person. Perhaps I should try to view this book in a more positive light, seeing it as an inspirational message of how someone can overcome their difficulties and succeed in life in spite of depression and anxiety. However, I feel that the author humble-bragged and name-dropped a bit too much for me feel any sense of kinship or connection to a fellow sufferer of mental illness.

I was very curious and excited to read "Furiously Happy." She described it as a funny book that dealt with mental illness. The tag line is "A Funny Book About Horrible Things." The back is full of endorsements from people saying "it's funny! it's funny! it's funny!"It's not very funny.Humor-wise, this book was a big step down from her last book. The humorous parts are greatly outweighed by the more serious parts. I was excited and relieved when I got to an essay that seemed like it was going to be humorous but they generally felt forced and very one note. Also, the essays were all over the place in terms of time. I like her rambling style but it worked better in her first book because she was following a general timeline of her life.All that said, I thought the essays and parts about her various struggles with mental illness were very good. I admire her honesty, desire to lessen the stigma associated with mental illness, and her commitment to find the best way to manage her mental health issues. But I would have preferred a book that was straight up about her mental illness. I had been so excited to see how has she made such a serious topic funny and am disappointed that the answer is: she didn't.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. GREAT RESOURCE! By JH We bought this book because it looked like it had the most practice for the upper level ISEE, and it did not disappoint! There was so much reading and math practice we didn't even have enough time to get through it all (we only bought the book one month before the test). The math was incredibly thorough, and the reading was quite difficult for my son at first, but the practice really helped him improve his skills. My son ended up doing way better on the test that we expected and got into our first choice school, so no complaints here!

We are from the UK and were completely unaware of this test and its contents, so this book played an invaluable part in helping to prepare him. He did really well in the end, so we were pleased he was so well prepared. The Tutorverse are great too - I can thoroughly recommend them.

Best available by far By Amazon Customer What an awesome guide - we've picked through a couple other ISEE test books and I would thoroughly recommend this one. It has a targeted, consistent approach with content second to none. Preparation is everything with these types of exams and this is the only guide that actually delivered an improvement in my son's scores.
